Moving expenses- W2 Box 12 code P

Post by GTAresident »

I see some amount on W2 Box 12 code P which I understand is excludeable moving expenses reimbursed by employer.

If I donot plan to claim any refund out of moving expenses
a) Do I need to report on 1040?
b) How does this need to be reported on Canada return?

Your W2 income has already been adjusted for the deductible portion of your moving expenses, and you likely have had a tax grossup, and the income included for non deductible expenses. Therefore, just pick up the W2 income amount on your return.

For Canada, international moving expenses are not deductible at all, unless you remained a resident of Canada while working and living in the U.S.
