Canadian Graduate Student in the USA

Post by 5bjr »

Hello All,

I have recently moved down to the US for grad school (in August). In 2009, I was paid in Canada (Jan-July) and the US (Aug-Dec). I am trying to understand exactly what I need to report and file with each government.

From my understanding I only need to report my canadian earnings (salary, canadian capital gains and dividends) to Canada (and file my tax return) and all of my US earnings the the US (salary only). Have I gotten this correct?

I also purchased my first home here in the last few months and think that I am inelidgable for the the First time home buyers tax credit (F-1 student Visa).

Thanks for the help!
