8891 Line 8 at Zero.

Post by Canam »

I have been reporting my RRSP to the IRS since 2003. Last year I withdrew every penny from my RRSP, I report the distribution on 8891 on line 7a and the taxable amount on line 7b and line 8 was $0.00.

Ok here’s the stupid question that I can’t seem to find the answer too. Since line 8 is now at Zero I’m assuming I’m done with having to file 8891. Correct?.

I assume the account is closed? If it is then, you are done with 8891 for that account. If it is still open (with zero balance) you should be asking the RRSP trustee to close the account, otherwise you should keep filing that you have this account.
After 20 years, I am severely cutting back on responses. Do not ask specifically for my help. There are a few others on this board that can answer most questions. All the best

I just checked on-line still showed the account with $0.00 balanced, I called and they have closed it as of today. Because it was still open in 2009 with 0.00 is it nessasary to report 0.00 8891 for 2009 with 0.00 balance?.

Thanks for your help.
