Late filing for TD F 90-22.1

Post by hbaeuerle »

Hello,
I've been in the USA for 2 years as a Green Card holder and never heard, until last weekend about form TD F90-22.1 - I have a brokerage account and a checking account in Canada - for which I declared all my interest and dividends on my 1040 - and now am wondering if I will be fined for not filing these forms. I donwloaded the form and can file for 2005 but what should I do for 2004 - ask for forgiveness?

regards,

Holger Baeuerle

Under the voluntary compliance rules, you will not be fined if you come forward and file the forms with all of the required information (assuming that you have not to date been asked by IRS to do so.)
