Resident or non-resident of Canada?

Post by marvinsilva »

I am a canadian citizen US GC holder who started a job in Canada. My main residence is still US (wife and kids lives in US, have a mortgage). Doing this to keep US GC and later apply for US citizenship. My question is about my status in Canada for tax porposes. Should I say that I am a non-resident?

You are probably non-resident, as long as you keep more ties in US than canada.

of course, working in Canada, your salary will be subject to Cdn tax, but noting else will.
