Is there a credit to be taken on the Canadian tax return for medicare and social security deductions? Canadian resident working for a US company on a TN Visa. I've heard conflicting statements - just like to know once and for all. One says there are no deductions / credits on the Canadian side and that the money is "lost" (not counting eligibility in SS later) and others say that you include it on line 431 of Schedule 1 as part of your foreign tax paid.
Thanks,

The Fica/SS/Medicare taxes are indeed eligible for the foreign tax credit calculation on your Federal and Provincial schedules.
And, as sson as you have worked six quarters, your SS eligiblity will be determined by adding those quarters with years on CPP to get some SS at retirement.
