Navigating remote work, taxes and residency
What would be the tax implications if someone who lives in canada, works in states on tn visa, who use to commute, but now is permanently remote for remainder of visa, leaves canada for a working remotely gig abroad? What if you sell your home and move your dependents too, (not sure if you will return) but maintain bank accounts, credit cards until you decide.. i know the tax situation can get tricky, factual resident, deemed resident? If cra declares that you have become a non resident, would you lose the benefit of foreign tax credits that canada offers, and now get double taxed? How would you file taxes in the next year, and if the move were to be permanent, is severing all ties to canada the way to go to be taxed less? Your professional outlook in this situation would be greatly appreciated.

How about giving us ONE scenario, the most likely one you will face?

Thank you Nelsona,
I appologize for my rambling:) if we leave abroad, and keep bank accounts, an address in canada, would we in any way lose the foreign tax credits in canada when we file?

Well, if you leave canada, you won't need foreign tax credits because you won't be reporting any foreign income in canada: you will become Cdn non-resident. Bank accounts etc are not enough to be resident.
You will report your world income in that third country (assuming their treaty allows residency for you) .
