RRSP contributions for a Canadian Employee working remotely from US (w/ Green card)

Post by Chrisbo »

can a non-resident of Canada working full time for a Canadian company, paying Canadian taxes contribute to company RRSP program? Currently working remotely, but previous to COVID crossed the border daily for work. Are there Securities commission rules preventing this? I hold a US green card, and file US taxes as well as Canadian.

Yes, you may contribute to an RRSP, if the RRRSP firm allows it. I believve Nebraska is the only remaining state that disallows residents from holding an RRSP>

However, unless this RRSP is thriugh the employer, you are not allowed to deduct the contributions from your US taxable income, Remember, all your income is still taxable in US (and state) because you live there
