This came to me over the long weekend :)
If I were to be laid off, I'd have to return to the US since my work permit in Canada authorizes me to work only for that employer.
So, how am I able to claim unemployment that I have paid into for over 4 years?
Even more broadly asked, does it make sense for TN holders to pay into unemployment insurance?
PS: I did a search and it didn't come up with much.
Thanks.
What happens to EI for Americans working on TN in Canada?

I think I found the answer: essentially, there is a mechanism for US citizens/residents to claim unemployment benefits outside of Canada.

Now, nelsona can confirm/rebuke/qualify this finding if he chooses to. :)
