whole life insurance reporting requirements

I am US citizen and am currently working in Vancouver. I have been living in Vancouver since last December and planning to stay in Canada for several years at least. I bought a whole life insurance back in 2015 from a US insurance company and would like to keep it if possible. I am trying to figure out whether the policy is an 'exempt' policy. I understand I can ask the company to do an evaluation. However, I would like to educate myself on this topic. Any advice is much appreciated.
