US citizen, Canadian resident - reporting US capital gains

Post by era044 »

US citizen; permanent resident in Canada since 2004.
Earned income of $11K in Canada last year (no earned income from the US at all).
My investments, however, are all in the US - last year, I had capital gains of $40K, on which I've paid the IRS what was due. I keep reading about how the Treaty between the US and Canada is supposed to avoid double taxation, but it seems like I'll be paying out some pretty hefty taxes on those same capital gains in Canada as well.
Where on the CRA foms can one deduct foreign income tax paid?

Check your tax guide and the instructions for Schedule 1, line 405. It will refer to schedule T2209.

Everything is available on CRA's website.
