Best time of year tax wise to move back to Canada

Post by jennie »

maybe this is a no brainer but
If salary is more in US than equivalent job in Canada is it best to move back to Canada on Dec 31st in order to avoid paying tax in Canada on US (higher) earnings?
If this timing is not possible could I decrease Canadian tax owing on US income by making RRSP contributions when I arrive back in Canada?

You only pay Cdn tax on the US money earned while living in Canada. So the best time to move back to canada is after your last US paycheck.

The time of year is not that critical, for Cdn tax.

It is for US tax, as earlier is usually better
