Getting RRSP Withdrawals to the U.S.?

Post by Arteeh »

With respect to fees and time, what is the most efficient way to get RRIF payments from Canada to the U.S.?

Some family friends are going to need to take RRIF payments soon. They are in Ohio and rarely visit Canada. ManuLife won't/can't direct deposit into a U.S. bank account which is what these folks wanted. Their CPP is direct deposited into their U.S. account and they were hoping their RRIF payments could be as well.

From past experience, U.S. banks are notoriously slow and charge significant fees to cash cheques drawn on foreign banks. Thus, we're looking for suggestions.

Thanks,

A cheque from them in USD drawn on their american bank (all Cdn finance firms have a US bank that they draft checks from).

This will be accepted for deposit by any bank in US without any Q.
