US Non Resident Taxes

Post by njdude26 »

I was working in US all of 2006. and moved to canada end of 2006.
But in Jan'2007 i was still on the payroll of the US company in NJ. so i got paid in USD for Jan'2007. Since then i have made money from Feb-dec'07 in Canada.

So i now have to file a Non resident tax in US and then file taxes in Canada.
right now im a resident of canada.

so my question is what forms to use to file the US taxes and what form to use on reporting the same for january in canada ?

can i use turbotax to do the filing for US. anything i need to be concenred about ?

in canada what software do i use ?

You use 1040NR. If you made less than $10,000 in US, you owe no US federal tax, but may owe state tax.

You then report the US income on your Cdn return, and use the FICA and state tax as a foreign tax credit.

Piece of advice. Nevder file the EZ forms. All they do is limit your deductions and/o credits.
