CDN Citizen, US Student with US Internship Income

Post by canuckmba »

I'm unclear what I need to file:
CDN Citizen on F1 visa with US Income from internship, and CDN income from past job. However, CDN ties are limited (bank account, RRSP). Do I claim CDN and US income on both filings?

Thanks, great site!

Also for pure tax purposes what has lowest tax rate between OPT / TN / H1B visa?

Your F1 status in US prevents you from becoming a non-resident of canada, so all income should be reported in canada.

Additionally, your US income should be reported on a 1040NR.

Your status question is too vague, and any elaboration would be simply be hypothesizing
After 20 years, I am severely cutting back on responses. Do not ask specifically for my help. There are a few others on this board that can answer most questions. All the best
