Departure tax..

Post by dhirenasha »

I m a Canadian citizen working in US on a TN. I moved out of Canada on 21st july 2007 with my wife and kid. The only property I have is my bank account(chequing, RRSP) and a car. Considering that I m a US resident for taz purposes, I would be filling 1040.

Now what is departure tax in Canada? When it should be filed. I had not taken any money out or disposed any property since my arrival in USA.

Actually this came up while I was reading one of the answers on the forum by Nelsona...

Then you must have read my suggestion to read the Emigrant guide from CRA, and the International section of the CRa website.

It really has good information.

Your filing in Us has little impact, if any on your Cdn departure return.
After 20 years, I am severely cutting back on responses. Do not ask specifically for my help. There are a few others on this board that can answer most questions. All the best
