Form NR73?

Post by canuckmom »

My husband got a permanent job and we moved down to the US on TN and TD visas in Dec. We leased a house with a 12 month lease, listed our house in January and sold it. We filed a T2062 for the house sale and a certificate of compliance was issued.

We bought a car in the US and have a Jeep that we are still trying to sell in Canada. Do we need to file Form NR73 to get a letter saying that we are non residents? How long does it take to get the letter? or will they send something from our taxes which we filed saying we had left Canada in December and paid departure tax on non registered money we had.

NR73 is only filed in unusual cases, or if CRA asks for it. Yours is straightforward.

It was sufficient for you to submit your 2006 Cdn return with the december departure date on it. You seem to have complied with all other aspects of prooving that you are no longer a Cdn tax resident. I presume you have informed any Cdn banks etc that you are non-resident as well.

There is no need for a letter as proof from CRA; you are non-resident. When you get your assessment back without any adverse comments, that will be sufficient for you to know that CRA has accepted your departure.
nelsona non grata. Non pro. Please Search previous posts, no situation is unique as you might think. Happy Browsing :D
