US and Canadian Taxes

Post by ns868 »

Hi,

I am an Indian citizen and was working in US on H1B visa since year 2000. I permanently relocated to Canada on 10th April 2006. I had filed all tax returns in US till year 2005. I am still working for the same US employer but I have been shifted to the Canadian Payroll Now. I have W2 from US (From Jan 2006 to 15th April 2006) and T4 from Canada from (16th April onwards). I also have a negligible amount on Bank Interest Income both from the US side and Canadian Side.

My Questions are:
1. What forms should be filed for US Federal Tax Return.
2. What forms should be filed for California Tax Return.
3. Do I need to report my Canadian Income on the US Tax Return or vice versa.
4. Do I need to report the bank interest on both the returns.
5. Is there any form on the US side which I need to file to indicate that this will be my last return in US.
6. What forms do I need to file on the Canadian Side.
7. Do I need to report my US Income (W2) on the Canadian Return.

Thanks in advance for your help.

I won't answer such all embracing questions.

I would point you to the "newcomers Guide" on the CRA website.

You have many options for US, see IRS Pub 519.

For Cal you will file a part-year resident return
After 20 years, I am severely cutting back on responses. Do not ask specifically for my help. There are a few others on this board that can answer most questions. All the best
