I am confused about what to enter on the 8891 under NAME.
I have two RRSP accounts and my wife has two RRSP accounts.
I am filing a joint return - we are on H1B - so my wife has a ITIN.
My question is in regards to who I put in for NAME and IDENTIFYING NUMBER on the 8891 when declaring my wife's RRSP accounts.
Last year I phoned the IRS on this and they told me to use my name and SSN when filling in the 8891 - even for my wife's account - because of what the 8891 NAME instructions state (see below : Even if you are filing a joint Form 1040 with your spouse, enter only your name).
This still does not sit well with me.
What are your thought on this.
thanks in advance

Each RRSP will have their own 8891. For her's put her name and ITIN.
Never believe anything you get on the IRS telephlunkie service.
The instructions are pretty clear: even if you are filing a joint return, ONLY the owner of the RRSPs name should go on the 8891 for that RRSP.
In other words, they want to know who owns each RRSP.

After 20 years, I am severely cutting back on responses. Do not ask specifically for my help. There are a few others on this board that can answer most questions. All the best
