ca capital gains, mandatory file taxes

Post by mguile »

I am married to a green card holder living in FL. As a previous Canadian I collect oas, cpp and a military pensions. I also collect us social sec. I recently sold some Canadian unimproved land for a profit of approx. $8,000 and filed all the paper work with CRA and received a Certificate of Compliance. The attorney handling the sale said I should file Canadian income tax. I am happy with the 15% tax that was withheld and sent to cra. Is it mandatory that we file ca income tax. I would of course include the Canadian cap gain on my US income as I pay taxes in US on my world income. thanks

Yes, a filing is required when cap gain is made on Cdn taxable property.
