T1 and 1040 tax return question

Post by kntaonca »

my situation:
1. moved to US in June 2004
2. have Canadian income before the moving
3. have US income after the moving
4. family still living in Canada

my question:
1. do I have to claim my Canadian income when file 1040?
2. can I select one of the monthly average exchange rate published by Bank of Canada (eg. Nov.2004) instead of annual average rate?
3. my US company paid for me the temporary living and the cost of house buying including house hunting trips etc. and they were counted as my income. Can I claim them as moving expense when I file T1?
4. what credit, deduction and exemptions can I claim?

Any help wil be appreciated.

You cannot claim any moving expenses on your T1, which will be a departure return dated June 2004.

The issue of first year taxation in Us is covered at length elsewhere.
