Social Security Contributions

Post by Nancy Thornham »

Can you tell me what happens to all the money that my husband contributed to the US Social security system while working for 6 years in the States? He did not complete the required number of weeks to qualify for receiving SS after age 65. However he did contribute around $30,000 in to the system. What we want to know is, is there any way we can access that money or is it just gone in to the US SS coffers? Thanks for your help. Nancy Thornham

There are several posts on this below, happy browsing.
As long as he has worked or will work in Canada (or some other country with an SS agreement with US) for 4 other years he will get some ammount of SS.

He will get HRDC to co-ordinate this in his early sixties.

Nothing to worry aboout now except to make sure he has at least some report from SS (they send one every year.

Everyone likley got one in the mail in the last couple of weeks, and that's why all the posts on this topic.
