Canada’s Universal Child Care Plan

Post by Greg »

Providing that legislation is passed in Parliament, I'm assuming this $1,200 a year for every child under age six will be taxable in the U.S. for people having to file a 1040, since it will also be taxable in Canada.

How and where would this be reported on a 1040?.

Thanks for any responces.

Now that this has been made law and payments are going out, does anyone know how to add this to 1040.?.

I would not assume that it is taxable on 1040. There never has been a principle that if something is taxable in one country it must in the other. Gambling winnings springs to mind.

If it doesn't meet any definition of income on the 1040, it is not reported.
