Can I use 100% bonus depreciation allowance - computer - Canada real estate

Post by canuck_girl999 »

Hey there.
I'm a Canadian citizen / US resident on a TN for last few years.

I bought a computer in Canada in 2018 for my rental properties in Canada. I want to put this computer under my Canadian rental properties so wondering if it can be a depreciatied on one of the properties, but more importantly, can I take advantage of the 100% bonus depreciation allowance. I see I cannot use section 179 if it's for the rental properties only (as I have others for business).

Also the depreciation allowance allows the complete write off if I choose MACRS straight line for 5 years. If I choose 40 years as it's foreign rental property then the deduction is minimal and therefore wonder if a computer used for foreign real estate has to be 40 years as well?

Thanks.
