Cnd resident/citizen Maintaining 401K employer contributions in US

Post by Betsy120 »

I have been working in the US on a TN (non-resident alien status) and returning to Canada soon. I am 56, have employer contributions to a 401 K of ~$30,000 which Fidelity has indicated that I can continue to maintain and manage and allow to grow in the US as a Canadian citizen living in Canada. I have no need for the money at this time and plan to remove in small amounts as needed for travel in future years when my income will be lower. Does this seem to be a reasonable plan? Should I get something in writing from Fidelity to confirm what I have received in verbal communication?

This is reasonable approach, and yes you should get this in writing.
