Instead of a re-entry permit, would not Form I-178 be another option?. I am a US Green Card holder have been using this for several years with no problems.

Since the poster will be working for a US company, he could get the Commuter Green Card.

US employment is an absolute necessity for I-178, and loss of that job will mean loss of that card, and GC status along with it if one is not careful.
