US Green Card

Post by canuck2007 »

I am a Canadian Citizen who commutes to work daily to US. I am about to file for my I-485 (last stage of green card process)and would have to move to US soon.....I would also be filing for Advance Parole. My parents + other siblings live in Windsor and I was wondering if I could still come to meet them every weekend ?......Would crossing the border on H1b/Advance Parole be an issue ?....Would US Immigration stamp the Advance Parole document everytime I cross the border?

Would really appreciate any help.

My wife had to travel back and forth across the Canadian border, using her Advance Parole document, (Form I-512) in 2004 and 2005. They stamped it once, and let her across multiple times. The red stamp says "PAROLED until " and then the officer used a pen to fill in a date.

The wording on the form says "... this authorization is valid for multiple applications for parole into the United States during the validity of the parole authorization noted above. Each parole period is not to exceed one year from the date of parole at the port-of-entry."

Please note, if you travel to Canada after you have filed for Adjustment of Status (I-485), but before you have received your Advance Parole, then it used to be the case that your act of leaving the US meant that you abandoned your application for a Green Card . You should do more research into this scenario, if you intend to travel outside the United States during that period. In our case the period was only 6 weeks, so we chose not to cross the border during that time.

What ben says is correct.... but let's move this to the immigration forum, please. That is what it is there for.
After 20 years, I am severely cutting back on responses. Do not ask specifically for my help. There are a few others on this board that can answer most questions. All the best
