Hi,
I'm currently in USA since May/2005 on TN. Had some income in Canada from Employment as well as EI for the 2005. I already filed US tax jointly with wife. Still Didn't file for 2005 Canadian return.
I have no properties in Canada, just a checking acount. My wife has a checking & savings acount.
Now, what I understood, I have to file Emigrate return for Canada, so that I don't have to pay tax to Canada for my US income. Am I correct?
If so, how to file that?
If not, what other options do we have?
Please help.

Read the "emigrants" guide on the CRA website.
It has all information needed for your 2005 departure return.
If your EI was for a period of time after you leaft canada, you may be asked to refund it.
Of course, you would have reported ALL your 2005 income, form all sources, on your US tax return, eh?

After 20 years, I am severely cutting back on responses. Do not ask specifically for my help. There are a few others on this board that can answer most questions. All the best
Thanks Nelsona
Thanks for your quick reply.
I just have one more question, for the US return, I used form 1040EZ and didn't declare the income that I earned in Canada (before coming to US). As I'm not US citizen/PR, I thought IRS has nothing to do with that.
Can I make any supplement/amend to my previous US retun?
Thanks

Yes, you MUST, as filing jointly requires that you report ALL income.
In future, forget EZ filing, use the 1040
You ammend your return by filing a 1040-X.

Thanks Again
I really appreciate your help. As a new comer and having apparently easy declaration, I used 1040-EZ, which doesn't have any other income.
Thanks Again, really appreciate.
