My family and I relocated to the USA in April 2024, and prior to that, we were living in Canada. For my Illinois state tax returns, I want to know if I can file as a part-year resident. My goal is to exclude the foreign income I earned before we moved to Illinois, as all my foreign income was earned while I was still in Canada.
Has anyone gone through a similar situation or have knowledge about Illinois tax rules for part-year residents?

Re: Illinois Part year Resident
Since you moved to Illinois in April 2024, you will file Form IL-1040 along with Schedule NR to calculate taxable income while you were an Illinois resident.

Yep, Illinois will happily take your taxes but only from the moment you set foot in the state. Anything you earned while still freezing in Canada? That’s all yours
