Canadian living in Canada needing to file US taxes
Hi, I am a Canadian citizen living in Canada. Last year, I have worked remotely for a US company for couple months (as a side job, I have a main job). I am wondering what are the steps required to file taxes? (and how does the US Canada treaty work in my case?) Thank you.

Was this on salary or as an independent contractor?

Hi nelsona, I worked as an independent contractor

So, because you worked solely in Canada, you do not owe any taxes in US.
You don't *really* need to even report the income, but to be safe, you would file a 1040NR, reporting the US income and use form OI to exclude it, using the treaty.
