Hello! I just came across a note I had never seen before, and wanted to see if this is accurate.
Is it true that if you start collecting your Social Security while still working in Canada, your SS is clawed back as long as you are working?

Collecting Social Security while working in Canada
Not a professional opinion.

Yes, if you have not reached FULL SS RETIREMENT AGE.
You are always supposed to report to SSA if you are working outside US while collecting SS.

After 20 years, I am severely cutting back on responses. Do not ask specifically for my help. There are a few others on this board that can answer most questions. All the best

Great - thanks so much! I don't know how I had missed that before. That matches your previous guidance (nelsona) about delaying SS as long as possible for dual citizens as well.

Oh, I'm not necessarily in favour of delaying any of these Govt payments (QPP/CPP/OAS/SS). I generally do not believe that delaying makes sense once you are retired. It takes too many years to recoup the payments you forego by deferring.
But this does confirm that just like if one lives in US, it is unwise to begin collecting if one is working, regardless of where one might be living.
