Impact of fom I-407 on Social Security benefits?

Post by dbaezner »

Hi. I'm a former long-term resident of the US and returned to Canada in 2016. I'm hoping to file immigration form I-407 to simplify my taxes and investments. Can anyone tell me if filing I-407 will cause me to lose my ongoing Social Security disability pension? It's 80% of my income, so I need to be sure.

Thanks
Dirk

Residence typically has no impact on SS. But you should check with the SSA on this. They make the rules.
After 20 years, I am severely cutting back on responses. Do not ask specifically for my help. There are a few others on this board that can answer most questions. All the best

Remember that I-407 in itself doesn't end your US taxation, especially if you are considered an LTR.
