UCCB

Post by Steve113 »

I am USC living in Canada with NRA spouse, who does not file US taxes. The UCCB was paid to my spouse, but included in my income for Canadian tax purposes. Should it be included in my income for U.S. tax purposes?

You probably should.

since you are not taxable in US, why not just include it.

If you ARE taxable in US, then you should probably be looking at what else you've done incorrectly.

Also, normally the tax rates are higher in Canada than the US so normally you will owe no tax at the end of it all. There has been some discussion about dividing the income 50/50 but you will probably find you won't need to worry about that hassle.

Isn't that what I just said?: "since you are not taxable in US, why not just include it." Why did you say "Also..."? Was there something you added that I missed?
