W2: Tax Preparation Paid by US Employeer, CANADA deduction?

Post by cyntax »

Hello,

I am a full year Canadian resident for 2013. My 2012 US employer sent me a W2 for 2013 which states as the only income the payment they made in 2013 to an accounting firm to prepare my 2012 US tax return.

Is this income exempt in CANADA under the tax treaty? is it deductible in CANADA somehow. if so how?

In the US tax preparation expenses are tax deductible...

Thanks much!

Not deductible. The treaty is not magic.
After 20 years, I am severely cutting back on responses. Do not ask specifically for my help. There are a few others on this board that can answer most questions. All the best

by the way, in US it is only deductible as a misc expense, which means you have to accumulate quite a bit of them for it to count, and you have to itemize.

So, its not *really* a deduction in US either.
