Hi,
I'm a Canadian who worked in the US on a TN visa from February 2013 until December 2013. I physically left the US on December 21st (although I received my final paycheck on the 31st), and have no plans to return in 2014 or in future. I understand that I have dual status for 2013 and can file either a 1040 or 1040NR, as long as I state that it is a dual status return. I was also advised by the IRS helpline, and I see from reading other responses on this forum that I could file a normal 1040 as a resident alien (even though I was not resident in the US at the end of 2013), which seems simpler. My issues with this are:
1) I earned a salary from the UK in January 2013 (where I was on a work visa). Do I need to report this on a 1040, if it was received before I moved to the US? I will be reporting it on my Canadian tax return.
2) Can I put my Canadian address on the form, as I no longer live in the US, even if I am filing as a resident?
Thanks in advance for your help!

to file 1040 you needto file entire year income including all foreign income. Use the UK tax as a credit on BOTH the US and CDn returns.
If you were in UK for more than a year before moving, you can exempt the UK wages with form 2555.

After 20 years, I am severely cutting back on responses. Do not ask specifically for my help. There are a few others on this board that can answer most questions. All the best
