Selling house in US before transferring to Canada

Post by steadgarwin »

I'm a US citizen working in the US selling my primary residence in the US next week and then in November transferring on a work permit to a Canadian company (first time in Canada).

When I file partial year taxes, will I owe Canadian taxes on any income earned before my work permit issuance? (250K capital gain on house, also I liquidated my roth IRAs and my stock investments this year).

thanks!

No, you will not. However, you would not owe any if you sold all these things immediately after moving to Canada either, since every thing you own gets re-zeroed on the day you arrive.

But best to do all thios before leaving US, for convenience.
After 20 years, I am severely cutting back on responses. Do not ask specifically for my help. There are a few others on this board that can answer most questions. All the best

On original roku it was bad enough that it was on the left side, but at least it left the screen eventually if you scrolled far enough right... making the ad scroll up and putting channel icons below it might make us have to do a lot less paging up/down from time to time.
