First time tax filing to US

Post by samsam »

Hi All

I was in Canada from Jan 13(visting India till Jan 13) to July 31st. As I got my green card, I enterted first time to US on Aug 1 2012 with wife and 2 kids. came back to Canada in 3 days. I joined US employer in Aug 2nd and worked from home till Nov 2 2012 from Canada(work from home). In between I traveled to US couple time for total 5-6 days. SInce Nov 3rd I am in US completely.
No visits to US at all in 2011,2010. In 2009 I was in US though on H1B visa till Mid August.
Till Oct 2012 end my wife was working for Canadain company while in Canada.

FOR US Tax filing purpose:
Seems like we will be filing dual status tax return?
As my days are less thena 240, seems like I cannot take standard deductions or filing 1040,right?
My understanding is we need "not" report Canadain income, correct?

For Canadain tax filing:
I got 2 payroll from US while I was working from home in Canada. Should I be reporting that income in Canadain taxes, right?
After Nov 3, when I moved to US(Informed CRA , closed licesnses, health incurance and all possible bank accounts) I do not need to report US income to Canada?

Please help! Appreciate your input!!
Thanks
Sam

You've come tool ate in that tax year for individula help. Read over all the forum for how to file. You are allowed to file full year.
After 20 years, I am severely cutting back on responses. Do not ask specifically for my help. There are a few others on this board that can answer most questions. All the best
