Wrong number of exemptions on W-4

Post by Nimsterman »

So it turns out I filed the wrong number of exemptions on my W-4 in 2012. I'm single with no dependents and I misread the "Head of Household" exemption - basically didn't notice the condition on having dependents. So I should have had 2 exemptions instead of 3. My W-2 for 2012 obviously now shows 3 exemptions for federal and state. I haven't filed my tax return yet, is there a form I need to file with my return to amend/fix this?

Thanks!

w-4's are not important. if you owe too much at end of year take less exemptions, or vice versa, Doesn't matter.
After 20 years, I am severely cutting back on responses. Do not ask specifically for my help. There are a few others on this board that can answer most questions. All the best
