Canadian/US Taxes - TN Visa

Post by Nimsterman »

Hi,

First time doing taxes by myself and with my TN visa status, so any help would be greatly appreciated in terms of what forms to file / steps to take in filing US and Canadian taxes properly. Here are my stats:

-Visa granted and arrived in California on June 27, 2012, renting an apartment in California since then.
-Form W-9 was filed with the IRS because I passed the substantial presence test (I was training in California on a J-1 Visa from Sept 2011 - Dec 2011).
-Single with 1 income, 3 allowances (federal & state).
-I have a T4A from a bursary grant (box 105), and I have a statement of interest paid on my student loans as well.
-I'm about to file my determination of residency status in Ontario, Canada, however I'm pretty certain I will still be considered a resident due to having bank accounts open, keeping my driver's licence, credit cards etc.

Thank you!

You are NOT a Cdn residnt by mny means, since you neitrher live nor work in Canada.
After 20 years, I am severely cutting back on responses. Do not ask specifically for my help. There are a few others on this board that can answer most questions. All the best
