Hi! Glad I found this forum!
Hope my question is simple.
I have a fairly simple situation, working and living in USA for past 7-8 months on TN status and my wife is USC and she didn't make any income in 2012.
Did extensive research about closing ties in Canada (will close DL and Medicare in Canada shortly and bank accounts too), so I would be non-resident of Canada for tax purposes.
Since I worked first 5 months in Canada I need to file T1 with departure date written on IT. As for USA I will have a W2 and need to file 1-2 forms.
I've consulted with several cross-border taxes experts and they ask couple hundreds of dollars for a "consultation" and similar fees for filing taxes.
It seems to be a lot for someone with a "simple" situation.
Could I file my T1 in Canada with my current accountants (less than $70 to file) and find another accountant in USA to file USA taxes and make sure my T1 shows departure date? I mean I don't need an hour to tell me close your bank accounts etc, I got the drill :P
Advice, opinions appreciated. I'm ready to pay, but not for nothing :P
Thanks!!
