8938 - 8891 rrif - poa

Post by kallan »

My elderly mother and I both live in Canada but are us citizens. I am her POA over her canadian RRIF account. I'm not sure if i need to report my mother's rrif on my 8938 and/or 8891 forms. I do understand that i do need to report it on the 90-22-1, but not sure about the others, Since the assets and income belong to her not me.

In fact, you do have to report it on your FBAR, if you have signing authority.

But she reports the RRIF on 8891 etc, and also on FBAR.
After 20 years, I am severely cutting back on responses. Do not ask specifically for my help. There are a few others on this board that can answer most questions. All the best

But to be clear, I dont have to report it on MY 8891 or 8938, only my fbar report (90-22-1)?
