Job seeker expenses - TN1

Post by klanfa »

Hi,

I had to hire a law firm last year to represent me for TN1 after getting denied twice. The third time was a success. Do those expenses (lawyer fees, flights to Toronto, hotel, rental car to cross border to Buffalo etc.) qualify as job seeking expenses for tax purposes?

Thanks

Depends, in which country US or Canada?

Where did you earn income from US or Canada?

On which side do you want to take the deduction, it could be either yes, no, or partial claim allowed as I said it depends.

Sorry for not clarifying that - I'm a Canadian in US on TN1, the job is in US and these are US taxes we are looking at.

Thanks

If you are working as independent contractor you could possibly claim some, if as an employee probably not.
