US taxes - correction to Canada tax paid

Post by Seb4321 »

Here is a bit of background. In 2010 I had income from Canada and the US. Paid my taxes in both countries but the tax amount I had calculated for Canada was incorrect. So, during 2011, I had to send a check to the Canadian government.

My question is, how do I account for those taxes in filing my US taxes for 2011? Can I include the amount in schedule "Other taxes"? If no, what is the proper way? I had income both from Canada and the United States in 2011 as well.

Thank you.

You can include the tax payment as a decuction of schedule A of 1040 as a foreign tax.
After 20 years, I am severely cutting back on responses. Do not ask specifically for my help. There are a few others on this board that can answer most questions. All the best
