[quote="nelsona"]Each type of income you ahve has to be reported in the correct line. Wages go on one line, interst goes on another, etc.

Oh I just saw a response you made in 2007 stating that the RC62 was not required to be entered in the 1040, so I'll just omit that amount and be done with it. Good, that's easy then.

So, how would you be getting more than $2000 back from IRS. You did not pay any US taxes back then, did you?

be careful;, the CCTB and the UCCB (whatever) are treated differntly. One was not taxable in US/canada, the other, the current one, is taxable in both countries.

Okay, so finished my 2008 and didn't get hit with the AMT. Then did the same for the 2009 taxes and was charged the AMT. I don't get this.

ARGH. The RC62 IS taxable in Canada, so I assume that means it's taxable in the US. The question is how do I deal with that then, where do I enter that information?

Look, you've gotten a lot of info from this site,.

would it be possible for you to post one question a time and then amswer the ones I ask. stream of consciousness doesn't do either of us any good.

So, back to my question: did you pay US tax in any year? You cannot get back more than you paid to IRS, except for the child tax credit.

I do apologize. The problem is that each time I pose a question, something else gets changed. This has just been a very long process for me and each step I take gets me closer and further away.

As it stands, it seems that I do have to claim the Universal Child Care Benefit (which IS taxable) as other income based on another post I saw that you confirmed.

I have never paid US taxes, this is technically my first year filing since 1998 or so. I assume the IRS will simply ignore the refund as noted by Turbo Tax and only give me what I am entitield to (the child tax credit).

Well, you don't want to send them false returns.

You have made an error if you are being refunded money which you did not give them. Most likely you are puting taxes paid to canada as a tax paid to US (likely in this all-encompassing W-2 that you created).

This is not a joke, you sign your name and swear that your taxes are accurate.

I entered nothing into my W2 other than the income I made. I then noted my Child Care benefit as other income. I did not note that I paid any tax at this point.

I then filled out form 1116 where I entered that information again. I noted down how much I paid in foreign taxes.

Then it tells me that I qualify for that stimulus refund, that's where the $900 is coming from. The 2009 is giving me a "Making Work Pay" credit. I don't know how to turn them off. Those are the only other credits it's showing me, above the Child Tax Credit.

hahah. Thanks. I figure if they want to stimulate me, they can. If not, then I'll deal with being... un-stimulated?

Now that I've got this done, it's a dream. The biggest issue was trying to figure out how to enter everything (the fake W2 and then entering info into the 1116 form) but I think I'm in good shape now. I cannot stress to you how much I appreciate the help. It's been... insane.

And I apologize for being so stream of consciousness. That's unfortunately how my stupid brain works sometimes, so I should be good now. Hopefully I won't be hauled away in jail or anything...
