Hi,
I am a Canadian and I would like to buy a single family rental home in Florida. I don't have a work permit to work in the US. Would travelling to the US to look for rental properties be considered work that requires some kind of work permit?
If I buy it personally, can I expense my travel expenses (hotel, flight, car rental,...) for the purpose of looking for the property on my form 1040 Schedule E?
Thank you,

The rules for rental property are the same as in canada. You can't deduct search expenses.
It is not considered work to look for a house.

Thank you.
Is there any way to deduct any travel expenses involved with visiting a rental property without needing a work permit?
How about visiting the property for the purpose of inspection after it is purchased and rented out?
Or travelling for the purpose of signing documents for the purchase of a rental property?

As I said, the rulres on deductible expense are the same as in canada: so, no you cannot deduct thes expenses.
Again, none of this depends on a work document.
