CN Citizen married to US citizen, works in US for CN emplyer

Post by Duane »

I am working with a Canadian Citizen who is married to a US Citizen. They both live and work in the US. The Canadian works for a Canadian employer and the spouse works for a US employer. The Canadian Citizen wants to maintain deemed residency in Canada in order to maintain qualification for his Canadian retirement. My understanding is ALL of their income is to be reported on their US tax return, and the Canadian income is to be reported on their Canadian return, but not sure if this is accurate, and not sure whether there may be a credit available for taxes paid one country of the other. Do you have any guidance?

Not sure what is meant by "Canadian Retirement", please explain.

They are setting themzslves up to report all income in ALL jurisdictions, which may not be what they want.

Better yet, have them ask the questions.
After 20 years, I am severely cutting back on responses. Do not ask specifically for my help. There are a few others on this board that can answer most questions. All the best
