Taxation of a nonresident employee of a Canadian company?

Post by majestic58 »

I'm not sure if you can help me. I work from home for a website doing customer service for a Canadian vacation rental company. The job is strictly customer service, we have clients and properties all over the world but I am in no way soliciting business. My job consists entirely of answering incoming calls/emails and returning VMs/EM inquiries, in other words I never contact anyone who hasn't contacted us first. I am seriously considering a move to Ireland (I know this forum is for the US but I'm wondering if the same laws apply) for an unknown period of time. I'm wondering what my options are as far as the legality of keeping my job. Am I legally allowed to work for a Canadian company from overseas? Are there limitations on how long I can be out of the country and still be able to keep my job? I've spoken with my employer who's said that I can keep the job if I "maintain the ability to be paid as a Canadian in Canada", but I'm not sure what I need to do to retain that. Any insight or assiatance would be GREATLY appreciated! Thank you.
