EDD form

Post by myflamesky »

I'm relocating from Canada to California soon. My employer asked me to fill in EDD and W-4 forms for the tax purpose. I just got a question about the "Additional Withholding Allowances", the 1st item in Worksheet B asks me to "Enter an estimate of your itemized deductions for California taxes for this tax year as listed in the schedules in the FTB 540 form", would anyone be able to advise how I should estimate this item?

My status is married with two income sources.

Thanks in advance!

At this stage of the year, I wouldn't be too concerned about "additional" witholding.

Fill your W-4 and EDD as single or married and leave it at that. Assume you will take the standard deduction.
There is no way to estimate what taxes you will pay this year either for IRS or for cali, given you have 3 different ways to file, and much may depend on what your Cdn income situation was before you left canada.

Wait 'til january before taking a closer look at IRS and state W-4.
After 20 years, I am severely cutting back on responses. Do not ask specifically for my help. There are a few others on this board that can answer most questions. All the best
