Residency and house sale

Post by Dani4 »

We moved to the US May 27 where my husband is working on a TN visa and received an offer on our house in Canada June 28 2011. Are we residents of Canada still? We still have all our bank accounts and liscences. Homeland security still has not entered our visa data and no SSN has been issued yet.

Or once we moved here on the TN visa did we loose our Canadian residency?

You are no longer residents.

This is not important for principal residence sale. Although you have a couple of forms to fill out before sellling, you won't owe any tax in either US or Canada.

Your other issues have no bearing on residency. You live in US
After 20 years, I am severely cutting back on responses. Do not ask specifically for my help. There are a few others on this board that can answer most questions. All the best
