Parental leave EI income from a T4E -- how to report in U.S.

Post by Jyrki21 »

Canadian resident (U.S. citizen) with no U.S. income -- had our first child in 2010 and spent part of the year on parental leave.

How would I report parental leave earnings from a T4E to the IRS?

Thanks!

On the line for unemployment -- line 19. It is not eligible for foreign earned income exemption, so you may need to use form 1116 to get credit for Cdn tax paid in order to reduce your US tax to zero.
After 20 years, I am severely cutting back on responses. Do not ask specifically for my help. There are a few others on this board that can answer most questions. All the best
